COLLEGES

BN Goalkeeping Academy has developed a soccer program to assist goal keepers with the opportunity to be considered by Colleges; Community Jr Colleges and 4-year College program.

We work with several colleges to make them aware of our program.  Working with College scouts and coaches to discuss our goalies to find the best match for both parties.

Today there are over 3000 universities & colleges just in the US. With this amount of choices, one has to decide what are you looking for? Are you considering Division 1, Division 2 or Division 3? What are the costs and are there scholarships to all colleges? Below is a simple breakdown;

  • NCAA Division 1 and 2 (large public universities, full and partial scholarships)

  • NCAA Division 3 (usually small private colleges, no sport scholarships)

  • NAIA (usually small private colleges, full and partial scholarships)

  • NJCAA (full and partial scholarships)

  • CCCAA (California Community College Athletic Association, financial aid available)

NCAA Division 1

Generally, NCAA Division 1 will be able to offer scholarships based on scholastics and of course, your level of performance in your sport. But not everyone will make the team because it’s difficult to play at this level. You need to understand that high school or club level is not the same as college level. For some, this isn’t easy to except.

NCAA Division 2

If you are on the border line, this is could be the best option for you. Just because the school isn’t a Div 1, doesn’t mean that the team isn’t as strong. As I mentioned, not everyone makes Div 1 so it is actually very competitive at the Div 2 level for soccer. Regarding scholarships, some of the colleges can offer some but not always a full scholarship.

NCAA Division 3

This can be a choice if academics is your first choice. Division 3 is where you want to compete at a higher level than club soccer but not a Div 1 or 2 level. Most cases, players trying out to make the team, usually do. As for scholarships, there is nothing available at a Division 3 level sports.

NAIA

Like NCAA Division 2, there are less regulations and there is a lot of foreign players who attend NAIA colleges. Similar to Div 2, there are scholarships available to assist you in the costs. If your goal is to make Pro, many scouts attend NAIA college games because of the foreign talent these players display. Similar to Div 1 and 2, NAIA is not easy to make the team.

NJCAA

In many cases, NJCAA is a stepping stone to transfer to a Division 1, 2 or NAIA college. If you are unsure of your major, don’t want to leave home, costs are important, then NJCAA is an excellent choice to consider. This choice will have many benefits and doors will open after your 2 years at a NJCAA college. Coaches and scouts attend these games looking for players to transfer, playing at a college level and can offer in some cases partial or full scholarships. But keep in mind, your academics are very importance so keep the grades up.

CCCAA

The California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) is a sports association for community college in the U.S. state of California. It oversees 108 athletic programs throughout the state. The organization was formed in 1929 as the California Junior College Federation to unify programs in Northern and Southern California.

Over 26,000 student athletes participate annually in intercollegiate athletics at California’s community colleges and more than 100 regional and state final events produce champions in 24 men’s and women’s sports each year. The majority of student athletes participating at a California community college transfer to a four-year college or university to continue their academic and athletic endeavors.
