West Coast Vyper Venom V2 Biohybrid glove review

Updated: Nov 21, 2020

When BN Goalkeeping Academy received the new design Vyper Venom V2 Biohybrid, some new features caught our attention. Over the last two weeks, Coach Brent and myself put the gloves though some testing.

To start with, two areas that have been an issue, wrist support and putting on the glove without major effort. The larger wrist strap support is a huge welcome feature. Unlike the Fusion Secure Lock design, the Vyper doesn’t have the movement restrictions. It offers a stable wrist support without limiting your performance.

Putting on the gloves in the past has taken some major effort. There have been times when Coach Brent and I would have to help each other to get our gloves on. The new “Tug Strap” works perfect for us. One feature that is offered on the Quantum series, the “Rubber Gel Comfort Tab”, would be a great feature to add onto the Vyper series. During training or games, having that tab to give a tug and get the gloves a tighter fit, would be really nice to have.

Moving onto the fit of the Vyper. First note, we always take out the finger savers. Coach Brent and myself both notice a tighter fit around all the fingers. To be honest, we like this change. Once we have our fingers inside the gloves you immediately notice the “Anti-Slip Internal Grip” on all the fingertips. This is also a welcome feature to have. This really helps your performance when your fingers start sweating. Your fingers start moving around and it can have an unsettling feeling. The new added feature gives you the confidence you need.

Grip: color vs natural color. We have bought over 15 different West Coast gloves and some have color grip. To be honest, the natural color has always been our choice for better performance. But trying the new Vyper, this is by far the best color grip we have tried. Not sure what changes West Coast did, but it works. We still prefer the natural color but the new design of the Vyper has definitively changed our views on color grip.

Trying out the new “Punch Zone”, we didn’t really notice a huge improvement here, sorry. We compared the Vyper to the Quantum series (Titan, Freedom, Melia), Fusion (Katana, Secure Lock), Vyper Volt and the Spider Pink. We even gave the Vyper Venon to some of our goalies to test the punch. They didn’t really notice a difference either.

Overall, the new Vyper Venom V2 Biohybrid is an excellent design with some very nice features. On a scale of 0-5, we give the Vyper a 4.5. Hopefully this feedback is helpful and we welcome any questions you might have. If there is a West Coast glove that you would like us to test and evaluate, let us know.
